What is Stress?
“Stress” is a term used to describe the physical and emotional effects of prolonged activation of a normal human defensive system.

When a person perceives a threat (real/present or imagined/past or future) the nervous system responds by releasing a flood of stress hormones e.g. adrenaline. These hormones rouse the body and prepare it for emergency action.

This is the Flight/Fight/Freeze (FFF) reaction and it is the body’s way of protecting the person. When working properly, it helps the person to deal appropriately with the emergency which is happening. Once the danger has passed the FFF reaction is turned off and the whole system should return to a normal, relaxed state.

However, in modern life, we are so often faced with “threats” that the FFF reaction stays switched on. It is this prolonged, abnormal reaction which we identify as feeling “stressed”. If present on an almost constant basis it produces physiological changes that manifest as physical and emotional symptoms.  If the problem is not addressed these symptoms may be the prelude to potentially serious medical conditions.

We need to turn the Stress Reaction off! We need to “Relax”!

We use Complementary Therapy Techniques to aid Stress Reduction: All Complementary Therapy techniques help by encouraging a shift from the stressed state back to a more normal state of relaxation. This is achieved by rebalancing the energy systems of the body in various ways.
When returned to the relaxed state the natural healing mechanisms of the body are able to act optimally and physical and emotional stability are restored.

We use:
EFT (Tapping)
.
Extremely effective tapping therapy. It is non-intrusive and can be used as a self-help tool between sessions. Emotional issues collapse surprisingly easily and the physical symptoms linked with them often resolve at the same time.

The Balance Procedure. An easy to use technique, ideal for self-help purposes for personal rebalancing. It combines elements of breath control and energetic balancing to calm down the stress response and allow movement towards personal peace.

Mindfulness Meditation. Usually we are not reacting to a real and present danger but to an imagined threat from the past or future. Mindfulness meditation encourages a return to the “Now”. Being able to regain the present perspective is a valuable tool in stress reduction.

Breath Control Exercises. As widely used in Yoga. The respiratory system is one of the first systems affected by the stress response. Controlled breathing encourages the calming process..

Basic Life Coaching skills.
Where are you “now”?
Where do you want to be?
How might you move to that point?
Mental and emotional clarity is the key to successful resolution of problems. You just need to see past overwhelm, confusion and old emotional patterns.
Life coaching is about setting clear and realistic goals and formulating clear baby-step plans to move towards them.

Reiki and Reflexology. Both are gentle, relaxing therapies in their own right and can be used in conjunction with any of the other techniques to enhance stress reduction.

We can tailor a one to one session just for you.
Or come and try the Group sessions to see what it is all about!
